You have found the pot of mould at the end of the rainbow. The only trouble is, the pot is your shower.

Mould is a type of structure formed by fungi, you usually find it in your bathrooms because just like any fungi, mould loves moist, warm environments.

The presence of mould in any room of the house can be an indication of poor ventilation and circulation.

Most showers, are made of stone or tile, which is porous, if not cleaned regularly mould and scum can build up and eventually be absorbed, by shower surfaces, causing heavy staining which can be difficult or impossible to remove.

The inside of the toilet bowl is usually made of porcelain which is prone to similar staining where the water sits.

Mould can find its way into the gaps of air in silicone around the shower, and the only way to remove it once it has done so is to remove and re seal the silicone.

If you have a tiled shower wall, mould can also begin to form in the gaps and texture of the shower grout, which can also be difficult or impossible to remove.

Unlike other areas of a property, the bathroom and shower require regular maintenance to maintain, and can be permanently damaged over time if neglected.

Make sure you have a functioning ceiling fan, which is used during every shower.

Open the bathroom doors and windows at least once a week for at least an hour.

Never scrub mould. We hear horror stories of inexperienced cleaners using harsh chemicals and abrasive surfaces to scrub away mould and in doing so, causing further damage to the shower.
